This year 318 people and organizations are up for Nobel Peace Prize. If you’re waiting for the mainstream media to tell you that President Donald Trump has been nominated then you may never hear it.
The actual names of those who nominate someone for the Nobel Peace Prize are kept secret for 50 years. Those who nominate someone, however, can choose to reveal their name if they choose.
Typically, those who are able to nominate someone for the honor are “lawmakers and government ministers, former laureates and some university professors.”
Trump was nominated by an unidentified American who indicates he wants Trump recognized for “his peace through strength ideology.”
The Nobel Committee indicates that there are 215 individuals and 103 organizations on the nominated list for 2017.
Ironically and outspoken critic of Trump, The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is also believed to be a nominee.
Pope Francis was also nominated by a Norwegian member of parliament because “he is one of the rare ones to stand up to Donald Trump.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin and former French president Jacques Chirac are also on the list of those who could be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this year.
It appears that the announcement will be made in October. Although, currently the exact date has not been announced.
As you may recall, former President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”
Many Americans were surprised when Obama received the award.
