Having grown up as a Southern woman in Asheville, N.C. the one thing I can tell you is that you’d better think twice before you decide to “mess” with a Southern woman.
There are two things that won’t be tolerated by a Southern woman.
Number one, you NEVER try to harm her children and number two, you NEVER try to take her purse.
One man who apparently didn’t understand that allegedly entered a woman’s SUV and began “rummaging” through her belongings in a Walmart parking lot in Asheville, N.C..
The man, later identified as Robert Raines, was reportedly digging through Christine Braswell’s SUV when she caught him in the act.
One eyewitness to the incident Blake Bennett said:
“When I walked out of Walmart, he had her purse and was pulling all of her stuff out. Then me and my friend told him to put it down and ‘What are you doing?'”
Braswell who is five months pregnant says she confronted the man and tried to retrieve her purse from him but Raines reportedly started running away with it. At that point, some of the items fell out on the ground.
Braswell said she initially chased him across the parking lot on foot but decided to run back to her vehicle and pursue him in her SUV because of her pregnancy.
In the video, Raines can be seen running away with the SUV, driven by Braswell, pursuing him at a high rate of speed before striking him and coming to an abrupt stop.
Braswell can later be seen behind the wheel telling reporters:
“He was with my purse and he took off and I took off after him, Me being five months pregnant, I chased a little ways then come back, jumped in the car, threw it in gear and come across the curb and ran him over. I was not going to let him get away with it. It’s not right, it’s not fair.”
Raines is lucky to be alive!
Miraculously, Raines suffered only minor injuries and Asheville police say he’s going to be okay. Raines was taken to the hospital about the incident.
Raines is charged with felony breaking and entering along with larceny. He is also charged with misdemeanor damage to property because he is accused of breaking the screens of Braswell’s iPad and phone.
Braswell is charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
