An Attempted ‘Invasion’ by Migrants into the US Occurred on Sunday

While many in the mainstream media have scoffed at President Donald Trump for weeks because he claimed that the migrants from Central America, who were moving toward the United States in large groups were “an invasion,” on Sunday got to witness an attempted invasion of the U.S. borders by those same migrants.

Rumors abound by the end of last week that the migrants were planning to rush the San Ysidro border crossing near San Diego, California.

Earlier in the month, the caravan’s own de facto government made up of a few leaders within the caravan, met with migrants in Mexico City to deliver the message that it was their right to enter the United States and to encourage them to press on toward the U.S.

Milton Benitez, a political analyst and sociologist who hosts the Honduran TV show “El Perro Amarillo” (the yellow dog) stirred up the waiting crowd by saying:

It’s your right to go to the U.S.”

Those same migrants departed Mexico City shortly thereafter, making their way to the Tijuana border.

Most likely, many of the same people in Mexico City were in the crowd that made a deliberate dash toward the border wall in San Ysidro on Sunday, no doubt testing to see the actions the U.S. government would or would not take.

Having easily pushed past a blockade of Mexican police, about 500 migrants of the approximately 5,000 migrants who have been waiting in Tijuana near the border, began rushing toward the border wall in hopes of pushing through onto U.S. soil.

Migrants had successfully breached the border wall when they broke through from Guatemala into Mexico in mid-October.

Perhaps they were hoping for a repeat.

This time, however, they were not successful.

Tear gas was lobed at them by U.S. agents before they could reach the wall.

Frustrated migrants threw projectiles at Border Patrol agents which prompted Department of Homeland Secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen to issue a statement that such acts would not be tolerated.

Nielsen said:

“As I have continually stated, DHS will not tolerate this type of lawlessness and will not hesitate to shut down ports of entry for security and public safety reasons. We will also seek to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone who destroys federal property, endangers our frontline operators, or violates our nation’s sovereignty.”

Also, when a few of the migrants found an opening in the concertina wire that had been installed to keep them out of the U.S., U.S. officials again used tear gas to stop them.

The border crossing was immediately closed to traffic in both directions and the foot bridge for pedestrians was also closed until 4 p.m.

Apparently, those questioning if Trump would follow through on his promise to keep the migrants out, got to see firsthand on Sunday that Trump wasn’t bluffing.

And, by Sunday evening, Mexico vowed to deport all 500 migrants who participated in ‘violently’ tried to ‘illegally’ break through the wall.
