Conservatives Getting ‘Heartburn’ Over Dinner with Dems about DACA

Wednesday night proved to be a big deal for many conservative who support President Donald Trump.

Their ordeal began with the announcement  that Trump would be having dinner with Democrats, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (R-NY) later that evening to discuss the plight of DACA. It was enough to cause severe ‘heartburn’ for many.

After dinner when Pelosi and Schumer released a joint statement that a deal was struck which didn’t include the wall, some Trump supporters panicked believing that Trump had agreed to amnesty for Dreamers.

Fox TV host Sean Hannity sent out several tweets but with one clear message to Trump, “keep your promises” or it’s over!

Hannity tweeted: “Politicians are supposed to keep their word. R’s failed on Healthcare, broke their word. They have failed! @POTUS needs to keep his promises.”

He later tweeted: “And if @POTUS doesn’t keep that promise, and goes for amnesty, it will be the political equivalent of “read my lips, no new taxes.”

Perhaps the new Communications Director, Hope Hicks needed to get the message out before the Democrats did regarding what really was discussed and decided during the dinner.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tried to relieve fears about the wall, saying there was no deal made about the wall during dinner but it fell on deaf ears.

Trump waited until the next day before trying to assure doubting republicans what took place during the meeting.

Trump tweeted: “No deal was made last night on DACA. Massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent. Would be subject to vote.”

He also attempted to assure the American public about the wall by tweeting: “The WALL, which is already under construction in the form of new renovation of old and existing fences and walls, will continue to be built.”

He then went on to tweet about his feelings toward Dreamers which typically makes some of  his supporters even more nervous.

Trump tweeted: “Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military? Really!…”

He continued: “They have been in our country for many years through no fault of their own – brought in by parents at young age. Plus BIG border security.”

Did conservatives really believe that Trump would be deporting Dreamers when he previously stated that he would only deport those illegally here if they had also committed a crime (other than illegally crossing the United States’ borders)?

Was Trump supposed to leave an unconstitutional executive order from a previous president in place when NO president, including Trump has the authority under the U.S. Constitution to create law?

Clearly, the responsibility of issues concerning DACA should fall squarely on the shoulders of Congress who didn’t act many years ago to resolve issues of those illegally here through no fault of their own.

Congress, not Trump is the reason we are having to confront the issue of DACA now.

Also, it was the responsibility of Congress to render Obama’s executive order on DACA null and void long before Trump became president but apparently they didn’t want to do that job either.

Republicans need to place any blame for issues about DACA on Congress.

Will Congress decide that amnesty should be given to Dreamers? Will Trump sign or veto an order that would grant amnesty?

Unfortunately, the American public, due to the inaction of Congress is now in a wait and see position.
