Just how foolish do Democrats think Americans are? Perhaps their latest report by an ‘independent’ attorney investigating physical abuse claims against U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison speaks for itself.
Ellison has recently been accused by his former girlfriend, Karen Monahan of physically abusing her.
Using the same logic Democrats have applied when considering an accuser’s testimony, as in the case of U.S. Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, Monahan’s allegations should be believed without an investigation, right?
Monahan’s assertions against Ellison include a video which she claims depicts the physical abuse Ellison inflicted upon her.
In addition, she purports to have other evidence, including medical records, which lists Ellison as her abuser.
Many have been calling for Monahan’s claims to be reviewed since Democrats called for a full FBI investigation of Kavanaugh’s claims by his accuser.
Apparently, the review of Ellison has concluded.
On Monday, Monahan received the results of a fair and just review. Or did she?
Ellison, the deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) you may recall, was endorsed by Minnesota Democratic Farm Labor Party (DFL) to become Minnesota’s next attorney general.
So, the DFL took the only “ethical” steps it could to ensure that both Monahan and Ellison received a fair and just review of Monahan’s claims.
The DFL hired an “independent” attorney to review those claims and on Monday that same attorney, Susan Ellingstad concluded in a draft report obtained by the Associated Press, that the allegation by Monahan is “unsubstantiated.”
Case closed, right?
Not so fast.
Is there a glaring conflict of interest that must be addressed in this “independent” investigation?
It appears that Ellingstad is the legal partner of the DFL’s own personal attorney, Charlie Nauen. (You just can’t make this stuff up.)
No genuine “independent” investigation is possible when a conflict of interest exists but Democrats hope you won’t notice.
Ellingstad based her conclusion that the allegations are “unsubstantiated” on the fact that Monahan would not cooperate with Ellingstand’s investigation, according to Ellingstad.
“Monahan’s shifting rationale for refusing to produce the video footage, including that it was lost, on a USB drive in storage or that it was too embarrassing and traumatic to release. Ellingstad also wrote that Monahan would not allow her to view the footage privately, and that Monahan’s sons — who claimed to have seen the video — declined interviews.”
Ellingstad further states:
“An allegation standing alone is not necessarily sufficient to conclude that conduct occurred, particularly where the accusing party declines to produce supporting evidence that she herself asserts exists. She has thus repeatedly placed the existence of the video front and center to her allegations, but then has refused to disclose it.”
Hold on, what?
I thought all female victims should be believed, according to Democrats, even when there is no evidence to prove there was wrongdoing?
And, why would any accuser turn over physical evidence to an “investigator” when it is obvious that the “investigator” is connected in someway to the organization that endorsed the accused?
No one but Democrats would expect an accuser to cooperate under those circumstances.
The leak of Ellingstad’s report has made it all but impossible for DFL to hide the allegations against Ellison from the public. Even they know it’s time to turn the investigation over to authorities.
DFL chairman Ken Martin issued a statement to NBC News on Monday which indicated:
“The investigation report, which was released today without our knowledge by someone outside of our organization, was unable to substantiate the claim of physical abuse made by Ms. Monahan.
For the purpose of objectivity and getting all of the facts regarding these allegations, we have decided to forward the information in the investigation to local authorities in order to let them review the contents and determine whether further investigation is warranted.”
No one seemed concerned about “objectivity” before the leak.
Ellison thanked DFL for the “independent” review.
Ellison released the following statement to the DFL for their “independent” examination of the allegations:
“Addressing this allegation has been especially challenging given the important national moment we are in. I believe women who come forward must be heard, and to have their allegations fully investigated. This is why I have complied with this investigation fully, and will do so with any other inquiries. I thank the Minnesota DFL for taking this issue seriously and requesting this investigation.”
Others also believe it’s time that a legitimate investigation be conducted against Ellison.
Late Monday, Republican Minnesota Senate candidate Karin Housley officially requested that an investigation be conducted by the Minnesota attorney general’s office against Ellison for allegations of domestic abuse.
“Recent calls for a congressional ethics investigation, made by Keith Ellison and echoed by my opponent, amount to nothing more than political cover; Ellison will have left Congress by the time an investigation could be completed. These are serious, recent and substantiated allegations that deserve immediate attention and raise significant doubts about Keith Ellison’s fitness to serve as Minnesota’s chief legal officer.”
Ellison has denied the allegations.
