The outrage over the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi may soon disappear from the spotlight despite Democrats’ and mainstream media’s best efforts to keep it in the forefront.
The Saudi government has made arrests and has assured the United States that they’ll handle the situation appropriately.
While many remain skeptical of the Saudi’s explanation that a fistfight was the cause of death, it’s unlikely that the U.S. will become further involved.
In reality, similar tragedies occur frequently in the region as they have for decades due to the many conflicts that continually plague the Middle East.
There’s a push, however, by mainstream media and Democrats to focus a great deal of attention on Khashoggi’s death.
Democrats have turned their full attention to this tragedy before the midterms with the hope of using it as an example of failure on the part of President Donald Trump who successfully negotiated an arms deal with the Saudis worth billions.
Democrats would like nothing more than to see the lucrative deal between the two countries fall apart and have Americans question the relationship between Saudi Arabia and the U.S. in general.
However, Democrats know that the longstanding relationship between the two countries isn’t going anywhere and in the end, Saudi Arabia may only receive a slap on the wrist for the journalist’s death.
Khashoggi was an insider to the royal family and became one of its most outspoken critics. Something that’s not permitted in Saudi Arabia.
According to the New York Post, he was also someone who supported Turkish President Erdogan and he wanted the Saudi government to do the same.
It was his goal to convince Saudi Arabia to show their support to Turkey instead of continuing their relationship with the United States and Israel.
And for that, Khashoggi may have paid the ultimate price.
