Moore Allegations, GOP Concerned, John McCain Says ‘Step Aside’

On Thursday, Senate nominee Roy Moore of Alabama was accused of initiating a sexual encounter in 1979 when the accuser was 14 and he was 32. The claim was published by The Washington Post. It is a claim that Moore adamantly denies.

Leigh Corfman, now 53 reportedly told WaPo that Moore, who was a district attorney in 1979, initially approached her and her mother outside an Alabama courtroom.

WaPo reported the following allegations made by Corfman against Moore:

“Alone with Corfman, Moore chatted with her and asked for her phone number, she says. Days later, she says, he picked her up around the corner from her house in Gadsden, drove her about 30 minutes to his home in the woods, told her how pretty she was and kissed her. On a second visit, she says, he took off her shirt and pants and removed his clothes. He touched her over her bra and underpants, she says, and guided her hand to touch him over his underwear.”

Moore who is ahead of his opponent in the U.S. Senate race, a seat left empty by then Sen. Jeff Sessions, said that the allegations were “baseless” and false.

Moore further called the accusations ““completely false and a desperate political attack.”

Bill Armistead, Moore’s campaign chairman issued the following statement about the claim by Corfman:

“Judge Roy Moore has endured the most outlandish attacks on any candidate in the modern political arena, but this story in today’s Washington Post alleging sexual impropriety takes the cake.

National liberal organizations know their chosen candidate Doug Jones is in a death spiral, and this is their last ditch Hail Mary.

Judge Roy Moore is winning with a double-digit lead. So it is no surprise, with just over four weeks remaining, in a race for the U.S. Senate with national implications, that the Democratic Party and the country’s most liberal newspaper would come up with a fabrication of this kind.”

GOP Senators wasted no time in condemning the alleged actions “if true”. One senator even called for Moore to step down regardless.

Among those who said Moore should step aside if the allegations are true are:

“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Senate Republicans’ campaign chairman Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) and Sens. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Mike Lee R-(Utah), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and David Perdue (R-Ga.)”

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) believes there’s no need to hear both sides.

McCain said:

“The allegations against Roy Moore are deeply disturbing and disqualifying. He should immediately step aside and allow the people of Alabama to elect a candidate they can be proud of.”

WaPo admits that because the accusations come from claims that are 35 to 40 years old with no physical evidence, it is a ‘he said, she said’ situation unless Moore confesses to the incidents.

Those on social media wasted no time calling “foul” on suspiciously-timed accusations against Moore. Others chastised McCain for “convicting” Moore without proof:

Former Congressman Joe Walsh said:

NY Times best-selling author Larry Schweikart said:

1) Folks, it’s very important you understand the Roy Moore hit for what it is–a mere PIECE of the Yertle/McTurd/Corkscrewed coup to eliminate ALL Trump candidates in 2018. 2) The first shoe was about a week ago, when out of the blue Martha McSalley in AZ

Others called out what they see as hypocrisy from the Left in going after Moore.

A Twitter user who goes by the name “Stock Monster” wrote:

“Did they say Roy Moore ?? I’m certain they meant to say Joe Biden ……:::”

  1. John McCain, the more amore you talk the less I admire you. This is to hear both sides and the accusers must present burden of proof. Can’t you see what libs are doing. You have made this man guilty before innocent instead of the other way around. Wake up Senator!!
