It’s already begun! Accusations of racism and the attempt to silence the Right have already ignited talking points following liberal Democratic Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum’s win in the primaries. Gillum will face Republican Ron DeSantis in November.
Gillum seemed to grab onto anything he could Wednesday in an attempt to get the “racism” ball rolling before the general election.
DeSantis appeared on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” in the morning and said the following:
“We’ve got to work hard to make sure that we continue Florida going in a good direction, let’s build off the success we’ve had with Governor [Rick] Scott.
The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases and bankrupting the state.”
As is typical, Democrats immediately accused DeSantis of using “racist dog whistles” because Gillum is African-American.
In other words, Democrats want you to believe that DeSantis sent a political code or message to his base disparaging Gillum by using the word “monkey.”
So let me get this straight.
Democrats want us to believe that a Congressman who served in the military for six years (currently a reservist), with the rank of Lieutenant Commander and a recipient of the bronze star for his participation in the Iraqi War as a member of SEAL Team One is a dirt bag?
In addition, we’re supposed to believe that a person with no record of complaints against him for ever making racist comments during his time in school, in the military or in Congress suddenly became a racist today after noticing that Gillum was black?
What a sad attempt by Democrats to help their gubernatorial candidate who is currently involved in a controversy in the city he has led since 2004.
It appears that the FBI is investigating alleged wrongdoing by key players in city government in Tallahassee’s city hall.
A subpoena issued by a grand jury was delivered in June 2017 requesting thousands of pages of records’ “related to top local developers behind some of the biggest projects subsidized by the Community Redevelopment Agency.”
Gillum has denied any involvement or wrongdoing and claims that the FBI has told him he is not the subject of the investigation.
However, it is alleged that the FBI is investigating a longtime friend and ally of Gillum, lobbyist Adam Corey.
Members of Gillum’s campaign and the Florida Democratic Party Chair wasted no time in denouncing DeSantis’ comment.
Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo said:
“It’s disgusting that Ron DeSantis is launching his general election campaign with racist dog whistles.”
Gillum Spokesman Geoff Burgan said:
“DeSantis’ comments speak for themselves.”
It would appear that Democrats are already using their “go to” playbook with its “high” standards set by Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals.”
DeSantis’ office quickly dismissed the accusations as “absurd.”
Spokesman Stephen Lawson issued the following statement:
“Ron DeSantis was obviously talking about Florida not making the wrong decision to embrace the socialist policies that Andrew Gillum espouses. To characterize it as anything else is absurd.
Florida’s economy has been on the move for the last eight years and the last thing we need is a far-left Democrat trying to stop our success.”
The real issue here is that Democrats are “placing all bets” on their Sen. Bernie Sanders’ backed “horse” in the race to win. (Hope “horse” isn’t a “racist dog whistle.” #sarcasm)
Gillum did well in defeating a half a dozen of his rivals in the primaries and Democrats may be hopeful that by attempting to make DeSantis look like a racist, Gillum will win in November.
It’s going to take far more than made up “racist dog whistles” to defeat a Trump endorsed, decorated military veteran and Congressman.
