‘Socialist’ Ocasio-Cortez Joins Her First Climate Change Protest?

Imagine how excited Socialists were on Tuesday when they got their first glimpse of Rep. elect “darling” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).

Naturally, Ocasio-Cortez’s first stop was to the office of Minority Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

The newly elected Congress member was attending a freshman orientation when she caught wind of an impromptu sit-in outside of Pelosi’s office, focused on pushing for congressional action on climate change.

Standing in the middle of a group of about 200 protesters holding signs reading “Green Jobs for All” and demanding climate change reform based upon the UN’s recent climate change report, Ocasio-Cortez said, in reference to Pelosi:

“We need to tell her that we’ve got her back in showing and pursuing the most progressive energy agenda that this country has even seen.”

Perhaps this will be the only time Ocasio-Cortez has Pelosi’s back since she does not support Pelosi’s bid to be Majority Speaker when the House takes over that role in January.

Pelosi has pledged to reintroduce a special committee on climate change after Democrats take control of the House.

I’m sure that’s music to the ears of most Republicans. NOT!

Pelosi released a statement in support of the protesters asking that the Capitol Police allow them “to continue to organize and participate in our democracy.”

Pelosi said:

“We are inspired by the energy and activism of the many young activists and advocates leading the way on the climate crisis, which threatens the health, economic security and futures of all our communities.

We welcome the presence of these activists, and we strongly urge the Capitol Police to allow them to continue to organize and participate in our democracy.”

Ignoring Pelosi’s request, 51 of the protesters were arrested Tuesday after refusing to leave a hallway outside Pelosi’s office.

Unfortunately, Ocasio-Cortez left before arrests were made.
