LaVar Ball, The President of the U.S. Wasn’t Obligated to Help Your Son!

Often today, we hear the same question when it comes to failings within our society, “What has happened to make it like this?” Sometimes we have to look no further than what our children are being taught by their parents.

Recently, three UCLA basketball players were jailed in China when it was alleged that they were shoplifting sun glasses. The players were facing a possible 10 year sentence if convicted.

According to reports, the young men were initially told they could have been forced to stay in China under house arrest for up to a month while the legal process continued.

Chinese authorities then told them they had video proof of the three players stealing from several stores, not just the one Louis Vuitton store.

President Donald Trump, intervened during his scheduled visit to China and asked the Chinese leader Xi Jinping to help resolve the case.  Shortly after the request, the three players were released and returned to the United States.

Each thanked Trump for their release after Trump tweeted that they should thank him and China’s President Xi Jinping “who made your release possible.”

On Friday, one of the players’ fathers, LaVar Ball stated that he and his family had no reason to be appreciative of what the President did for their son.

Ball said:

“Who? What was he over there for? Don’t tell me nothing. Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out.”

After telling ESPN’s reporter Arash Markazi that the crime his son was accused of was no big deal, Ball further stated:

“As long as my boy’s back here, I’m fine.

I’m happy with how things were handled. A lot of people like to say a lot of things that they thought happened over there. Like I told him, “They try to make a big deal out of nothing sometimes.” I’m from L.A. I’ve seen a lot worse things happen than a guy taking some glasses. My son has built up enough character that one bad decision doesn’t define him. Now if you can go back and say when he was 12 years old he was shoplifting and stealing cars and going wild, then that’s a different thing.

Everybody gets stuck on the negativity of some things, and they get stuck on them too long. That’s not me. I handle what’s going on, and then we go from there.”

Trump tweeted:

Those on the Left didn’t like Trump’s truisms and mocked him when he tweeted, “I should have left them in jail!” However, many on the right supported Trump.

Gailtalk tweeted what many on the Right felt about Ball’s ungrateful comment:

“Who wouldn’t have reacted same as Trump when faced with STAGGERING INGRATITUDE of LaVar Ball? Difference is tweets or says out loud what rest of us are thinking to ourselves! #MAGA”

BooBooNyC wrote: “When the President tweets about you, it’s either going to be the best day ever or the worst. LaVar Ball is lucky his worst day is just a tweet and not his son rotting in a Chinese jail.”

The “White House grandfather clock” obsessed former FBI Director James Comey tweeted:

“A good leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share of the credit.” Arnold H. Glasow(1905-1998)”

Many on the Left and some on the Right couldn’t understand why the President of the United States would even bother tweeting about LaVar Ball’s comments.

However, others understood why Trump would do so.

Like Trump, many Americans are wondering why any parent would teach his adult son or daughter that “They try to make a big deal out of nothing sometimes” when talking about their child’s alleged acts of “shoplifting from several stores.”

Instead of admonishing them for any wrongdoing, the reported behavior was dismissed as no big deal.

Maybe next time when another American who has learned this same ‘lesson’ from their parent, travels to a foreign country and is accused of a crime, they won’t be so fortunate as to have the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES go to bat for them.

Not many people can boast of that fact.

And while you may not like the President for whatever reason, you could at least show respect for the Office of the President that rescued your son.

Mr. Ball, if nothing else, you should be grateful that he took the time to think of your son when he certainly was under no obligation to do so.
